Isa Katharina Gericke - Soprano
Born in Berlin, Isa Katharina Gericke grew up in Namsskogan, a small village in Norway, and studied at the Norwegian Music Academy in Oslo and at the Universität der Künste in Berlin. In 2001 she won the national first prize of the Queen Sonja International Music Competition in Oslo and has since then proven to be a versatile and colorful artist, acclaimed for her interpretation- and communication skills. Isa is a true musician in its most genuine sense.
In 2003 she made her debut as Gretel in Humperdinck's Hänsel and Gretel at the Norwegian Opera, followed by invitations to the most important venues in Scandinavia, Germany, Greece and Canada. 2008 she sang Euridice in Monteverdi's Orfeo under the conduction of Rinaldo Alessandrini for the opening of the new Norwegian National Opera. In 2010 she performed both Musica and Euridice at the Herrenhausen Festival under the conduction of Olof Boman. The last two summers she has been singing the role of Gudrun in the Saint Olav drama Spelet om Heilag Olav, one of Norway's biggest outdoor happenings in Stiklestad.
In the season 2012-2013 Isa sung the title-role of Gluck´s Orfeo ed Euridice at the Schlosstheater in Potsdam and at the Staatstehater Cottbus under the baton of Antonello Manacorda, Erste Dame in Mozart´s Die Zauberflöte in Kristiansand, Norway, and will go back to Potsdam for Kraus' Proserpina under the baton of Olof Boman at the Musikkfestspiele Potsdam Sanssouci.
In the present season Isa gives her Wagner Debut as Wellgunde with the Bremer Philharmoniker under the conduction of Markus Poschner, as well as her debut as Micaela in Trondheim.
Isa has a special interest in the Lied- and romanza repertoire and is an acclaimed recital singer, a. o. at Bergen International Festival in Edvard Grieg's home Troldhaugen. 2008 she made her UK debut the Wigmore Hall with a recital.
She has sung with the Oslo Philharmonic, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Czech Philharmonic, under the batons of a. o. Sir Andrew Davis, Manfred Honeck, Frans Brüggen, Rinaldo Alessandrini and Philippe Herreweghe.
Isa recordings include the role of Solveig in Grieg's Peer Gynt with the Malmö Symphony Orchestra conducted by Bjarte Engeset for Naxos; the CD Waldabendlust as the result of her research in the field of the German Lied in Norway with songs by Kjerulf, Irgens-Jensen, Backer-Grøndahl and Winter Hjelm. In 2009, she followed up with a new recording of Lieder with the acclaimed pianist Christian Ihle Hadland. The recording is a tribute to the soprano Eva Nansen – married to world famous explorer, scientist, diplomat, humanitarian and Nobel laureate Fridtjof Nansen – with Lieder from Eva Nansen's repertoire by Kjerulf, Nordraak and Backer Grøndahl. Then, with the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, Isa joined the trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth for the CD My Heart Is Always Present (Simax Classics).
Together with Swedish conductor Olof Boman, Isa is artistic director of the Gloger Festival in Kongsberg, Norway.
